The Rare Orchid story
A film in six chapters. Scroll to begin.

Two stills named Donald and Daisy
Around 2020, Jamie, our head distiller, found the obsession that would define everything after: the patient, precise craft of making exceptional gin. In 2022 he travelled to Holland to train on the iStill and master his trade, and that formal grounding in the innovative, non-traditional still became the backbone of every award-winning release since.
In 2023, in a quiet industrial unit beside a nature reserve in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Jamie and his family fired their own stills for the first time. Donald is ten litres of stubborn precision, where new flavours are trialled batch by tiny batch. Daisy, at fifty litres, takes the perfected recipe to production. Both carry the name of the Flying Duck Orchid, the rare native flower on our label.

The journey
Mastery is never finished. From formal iStill training in Holland to the years of batches since, Jamie studies gin wherever the journey takes him: the botanicals other distilleries reach for, the ingredients he has never seen used that way, the techniques behind the world's best pours.
None of it is imitation. It is knowledge carried home and folded into his own recipes, trialled on Donald, perfected on Daisy, and poured as something that could only come from The Rare Orchid.

Chapter IV. Lady Marquez
Proper gin for improper thoughts.

Chapter V. Visit
Where the story is poured
Landsborough's first legal distillery, known to regulars as The Shed. Gin flights and guided tastings beside the still, and a quiet verandah by the nature reserve. The story tastes better in person.
