In the distilling trade it is traditional to name your stills. Ours are Donald and Daisy, named in honour of the Flying Duck Orchid (Caleana major), the rare native flower on our label and the namesake of the distillery.

Donald, 10 litres of stubborn precision

Donald is the research department. Every Rare Orchid gin begins here, trialled in small experimental batches until the balance of botanicals is exactly right. Most ideas do not survive Donald. The ones that do go on to win medals.

Daisy, 50 litres of consistency

Once a recipe is perfected, Daisy takes over. At fifty litres she is still small by industry standards, which keeps the team agile: full production runs, seasonal releases and limited batches that are only ever poured at the cellar door.

Not your usual stills

Donald and Daisy are iStills from Holland: steel and square, not copper and round. Unconventional in a tradition-bound industry, they use precise temperature control to deliver the same quality batch after batch. The judges handing out the medals have not minded one bit.
