Meet the Team
The Rare Orchid Distilling Co. has two stills for distilling our award winning gin. In the distilling industry, it is traditional to name your stills. Our 10 litre still is fondly known as Donald and our 50 litre still Daisy in honour of the Flying Duck Orchid (Caleana Major) seen on the company’s logo. The distillery uses istills from Holland which are unconventional compared to the traditional copper still currently used by many distilleries. Donald and Daisy are steel (not copper) and are square (not round edged). They also use technology to ensure a consistent quality of product every time.
Meet Donald
Our 10L still allows us to experiment on flavours using a small batch. This research and development methodology allows us to perfect our gins. Once perfected, we bring Daisy into the picture to allow larger production quantities to be produced with the same consistency.
Meet Daisy
Once perfected, we move to larger batch production curtesy of Daisy. Daisy is still small, allowing the team to be agile and produce quality distilled products using a broad range of flavours, including limited addition batches which are only available at our distillery.
